Super Mario Galaxy Movie: Major Character Spoiler in Cinema Listing (2026)

Could a UK cinema listing have just spoiled a major surprise for Super Mario Galaxy fans? A recent film synopsis from Everyman Cinema (https://www.everymancinema.com/film-listing/327878-the-super-mario-galaxy-movie/#coming-soon) has sparked excitement and speculation among gamers and movie enthusiasts alike. While the listing initially included a detailed plot summary, it was quickly updated, leaving fans wondering if they’d caught a glimpse of something they weren’t supposed to see—yet. But here's where it gets controversial: the original synopsis not only mentioned Bowser Jr., a character already confirmed for the film, but also hinted at another major player who has yet to be officially announced. And this is the part most people miss: the synopsis suggested that Wario could be joining forces with Bowser Jr. in an ‘evil alliance,’ a detail that has since been removed.

The now-deleted synopsis read (as spotted by IGN (https://www.ign.com/articles/the-super-mario-galaxy-movie-description-appears-to-spoil-a-major-unannounced-character)): ‘After defeating Bowser and saving Brooklyn, Mario faces Wario and Bowser Jr.’s evil alliance. Now, alongside his friends and Yoshi, he must stop their plans for world domination.’ While the listing has been scrubbed clean, the damage may already be done. The updated version simply states: ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is an animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros, and follows The Super Mario Bros Movie, which was released in 2023 and earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide. Both films are produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto (https://www.videogameschronicle.com/people/shigeru-miyamoto/) of Nintendo (https://www.videogameschronicle.com/platforms/nintendo/).’

So far, three major new characters have been officially confirmed: Bowser Jr., Rosalina, and Yoshi. Bowser Jr. will be voiced by Benny Safdie, the filmmaker and actor known for The Smashing Machine and Uncut Gems. Rosalina, meanwhile, will be played by Brie Larson, celebrated for her roles as Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and her Academy Award-winning performance in Room.

A new trailer released last month (https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/a-new-trailer-and-new-characters-including-yoshi-have-been-revealed-for-the-super-mario-galaxy-movie/) confirmed the return of several enemies from Super Mario Bros 2, including the fan-favorite Birdo, as well as Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, who made brief appearances in flashback scenes in the first film.

Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with Matthew Fogel returning as screenwriter and Brian Tyler as composer, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to hit theaters on April 1. But the question remains: was Wario’s inclusion a genuine leak or a clever misdirection? What do you think? Is Wario a welcome addition, or would you prefer the film focus on other characters? Let us know in the comments—this is one debate that’s sure to divide fans!
